1) How have our music listening habits changed since 1960?

People have more options to listen to music and more radios to listen from such as from radios to podcasts and streaming services

2) When did Apple Beats 1 Radio launch and what is it?

Apple beats radio launched in 2015 and it is a podcast style radio which streams music and is more of a carefree radio show.

3) What is the difference between Beats 1 Radio, iTunes and Apple Music?

Beats 1 is a radio and itunes and apple music are strictly music streaming services
Beats 1 Radio sometimes has guests and plays music which is trending whereas Itunes and Apple music only play music which you want to play

4) Why was Apple so keen to enter the online music world and compete with Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music (and others)?

So they have more ways to make money and so that they can widen their target audience from them moving radio stations 

5) Why did Apple choose the three selected DJs for launch? 

For diversity and their knowledge and tastes in the field of music and their experience and so they can bring their audiences from their former radio shows such as Ebro Darden from Hot 97 in America.

6) How does the use of DJs differ from Spotify, Amazon Music and other streaming services? 

DJs offer you a playlist whereas on Spotify you have to find your own songs you like

7) How does the content of the Julia Adenuga show differ from Radio 1? 

Julie Adenuga represents London and indie artists out of London because she knows how it is as she grew up there. She is also at the epicentre of the grime scene in London as both her brother are renowned in the scene

8) Why does Beats 1 radio give Apple the power to make or break new artists? Is this a good thing or a bad thing for the music industry?

This is because people nowadays only listen to artists which are popular and if they are not they are scrapped. This is a bad thing but a good thing for the company

9) Read the BBC feature on the launch of Apple Beats 1 Radio. Did the industry experts think it would be a success? Why?

No it did not because there are already many streaming sites as Beats 1 Radio. It is also because the similarity in the same field will cause the success of Beats Radio 1 to deteriorate gradually over the years

10) Give arguments for and against the idea that Beats 1 will be a threat to traditional media industries (e.g. radio stations, record shops, online music retailers etc.)

Beats 1 Radio is a Threat as it not only is a podcast style radio it also streams music which people are interested in and it designs playlists for you to boost the listeners of Apple Music

Beats is not a Threat as there are already Radio stations which do the same thing as it.

Audience

1) Who is the target audience for Beats1 and Julia Adenuga in particular? Refer to demographics and psychographics.

The target audience is a niche audience but also people interested with london music culture. Ages of young adults and of mostly working class and of Male gender as the majority of the people who are known in the grime scene are predominantly male

2) Why do people listen to Beats1? Which aspects of Blumler and Katz’s Uses and Gratifications theory relate to Beats 1 and its audience?

People listen to Beats 1 as escapism as they can take a few minutes of their life to just relax and listen to the radio and be filled in on what new songs are popular and learn about new indie artists because Beats 1 often have exclusives 

3) Can the audience actively interact with the Apple Beats 1 Radio or are they passive when listening? How? Give examples. 

They can actively interact as they can suggest things for the Apple Beats 1 radio to do via social Media. They can also be prosumers and buy the music that Beats 1 are playing via Apple Music

4) Is Apple Beats 1 aimed at a mass or niche audience? How does this differ to BBC Radio 1?

It is aimed at a niche audience and this is because they can receive exclusive access to music whereas Radio 1 streams mainstream music. Exclusive access attracts people who are interested in indie music because the music in unreleased and only is owned by Apple Beats Radio 1

5) Do you think Apple Beats 1 radio will be popular with young audiences or are streaming services the future of audio-based media?

Yes it will be popular at it fits the wants of young people and it will surely evolve as the music scene and popularity and tastes evolve.
